W.O. #1 – Shallow Roots desiree, April 22, 2019August 26, 2019 Today has been fun. See? In case you’re wondering, Noelle is our dog. I also learned a lot about SSL certificates, backing up my site, and what “DNS propagation” means today. (Does not mean I’m happy about it though.) If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll discover the *genius* way Clint fixed the car’s screen. In better news, here is my weekly writing opportunity submission for last week. Tell me what you think in the comments section below! Writing Opportunity for the Week of 4/15/19: It’s April, so it’s raining almost everywhere. Find an unusual place where rainwater has collected. Write approximately 100 words featuring this water oddity. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Purple sage…red osier dogwood…trumpet bluebells? I can’t remember what you whispered as your eyes closed in the sea of stark white hospital sheets that screamed against the random palette of you. The last planter on the deck has stayed empty all spring. The remaining eleven once scattered sweet scents and vibrant hues. No more because I don’t care. Let ‘em dry up. Something around here should match my insides. Mama had the green thumb. I had the hitchhiker’s. My umpteenth prodigal homecoming included a cool 5:37 dawn wake-up call to tend her garden utopia while conveniently ignoring our perpetual mother-daughter slough. Mama’s friends would yip-yap on this deck among the vines and blooms. “Pammie,” they would say to her, “you gotta quit treating that girl like a stray. She needs to learn some responsibility, put down roots…” Well, that didn’t work because the only thing I do is repetitively rearrange these planters of crunchy foliage as if I will finally unlock a heartfelt memory of Mama. I can’t even do that today. I stare at this stupid last planter that’s not actually empty. I peek in and estimate three inches of rainwater, a handful of paper-thin petals, and a wish to get one thing right. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I cheated; it’s 208 words, but this is my blog. HA! Friends, in addition to dropping a comment, please take advantage of this week’s writing opportunity: You found someone’s shopping list on the ground. It has six items on it. What are these items? How do they plan on using them? Write approx. 100 words. Submit it via my Contact page. It’s a fun one; I will try to conjure up something less depressing for this one! Hope you had a great Easter that made you breathe deeper, reflect more intently, and love marvelously while sourced in Christ’s sacrifice and promise of life anew!
