Writing Opportunity #10 – Wite-Out Tape desiree, March 27, 2020March 27, 2020 Writing Opportunity #10Choose one insignificant thing in the room you’re currently in and write about it. Give it more substance and meaning. 250 words “Ode to my BIC Wite-Out EZ Correct Tape” “Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.” Yes, words of wisdom, Mr. Henry Ford, but we cannot forget what happens in between failure and beginning again … CORRECTION! No, the 27th is not a Thursday. No, let’s be realistic, “cauliflower” does not belong on my list of “Eat More of These Foods …” I ran out of room, so I squeezed my letters together. And even though I am the only one who will see this, it is ugly and unacceptable. And that’s where you, tried and true friend, come in. You are molded to fit my thumb comfortably. I may only need you on an average of three centimeters per week, but my thumb thanks you for this trench in the war of editing. Your film-based tape transfers a paper-thin slip of dry white ribbon with my effort at the helm. Never too much but sometimes too little. You even loop used up tape within your case like the wheel of a cassette, and you play those tunes of ink’s mishaps and rescues so well. You may be shaped like a teardrop, but you bring me joy in the beautiful way you paint over my errors to give me a second chance … or third chance … or yes, even a fourth.
