Item #0013 – Set of 3 Companion Library Books of Classic novels (1963) desiree, September 9, 2016April 7, 2019 I am majorly suffering from an inability to get back on track after the Labor Day holiday weekend, so this post is laaaattttteeee! (That looks like “latte” which now makes me want coffee.) OK, back to business! We are so well-traveled and studious. I was on the floor sifting through boxes at a thrift store in Columbia when I spotted these three literary treasures. The neat thing is that these are not just three classic stories but SIX! Just flip the books over and voila! Oh, how nice, The Wizard of Oz, Swiss Family Robinson, and The Call of the Wild! Wait, what?! We now have The Jungle Book, Robinson Crusoe, and Black Beauty! Grosset & Dunlap published these three books in 1963. Their Companion Library series of two-in-one volumes was published throughout the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. Other combined titles included Adventures of Pinocchio/Story of King Arthur and His Knights and Little Men/Little Women. Honestly, these books aren’t that spectacular with very few illustrations throughout, but the two-fer concept is neat. These serve as a nice gift for a fan of children’s classics or someone who likes to tear vintage books up in order to make secret compartment boxes or notebooks with upcycled vintage covers. As mentioned in a previous post, I love vintage books, but I only have two words in my mind now: X-ACTO knife. To tear up or not to tear up? Status: For sale on etsy site here. Yes, I’m firing that up again. Random for You: Grosset & Dunlap (under the Penguin/Random umbrella) is the publisher of one of the most popular biographical and historical children’s series today, the Who Was…? Series. (You know, the ones with the big headed people on the cover.) Doesn’t it seem that everyone is just recycling ideas? Well, Grosset & Dunlap published their Signature Books with titles like The Story of Abraham Lincoln, The Story of Amelia Earhart, and The Story of Annie Oakley all of which have their own Who Was…? Series counterpart book. Check out this great tutorial on how to make a hollow book on wikiHow! Share this:FacebookPinterestTwitterPocket Related catchpenny ambry 1960sbooksvintage
